In Korea, an incredible 59% of deliveries are by C-section. This is one cause of South Korea's low birthrates since C-sections significantly lower the number of births a woman will have.
These rates in Korea and other countries are far above international guidelines for best maternal and neonatal outcomes (around 10-15 C-sections per 100 births).
Where rates of C-section are high, fertility tends to be much lower, by ~ 1/3 birth/woman in advanced countries.
The same relationship holds for US states. Although the variation in the rate of C-sections is just 23% to 38%, we still see that a higher rate of C-sections is linked to fewer births.
Numerous studies have confirmed this relationship. But why?
Demographer Lyman Stone explains how C-sections reduce future fertility
First, studies find the ability to conceive is reduced after a C-section, likely because of scar tissue in the uterus.
Second, doctors advise women to avoid becoming pregnant again after 2-3 C-sections
But what is going on with Korea? Why are doctors performing so many C-sections in South Korea when they are so damaging to a woman's future fertility?
Is this medically necessary? Mostly no. The prevalence of C-sections in South Korea looks random.
The reason for excessive C-sections is money.
In Korea, doctors are compensated very little for vaginal delivery (one fifth to one third of similar countries). Combined with lawsuit risk, profitability for obstetricians was low.
Many OBs went out of business. Many others increased profitability through C-sections.

Marriage and Modesty
[Sirach] {7:21} Do not choose to depart from a good and understanding wife, whom you have been allotted in the fear of the Lord. For the grace of her modesty is above gold.
A wife should be modest even before her husband, and a husband should be modest even before his wife. Whoever teaches immodesty to married couples, leads them away from Christ, and harms the Sacrament of Marriage. For the relationship between a husband and wife is a reflection of the relationship between Christ and His Church. Should Christ be immodest with His Bride, the Church? Should the Church be immodest before Christ? So then, neither should a husband and wife be immodest with one another, neither in thought, nor in word, nor in deed. For immodesty leads to every sexual sin.
Marriage is not an exception to the eternal moral law. Natural marital relations is morally good only when it is practiced in accord with morality. Lust within marriage is gravely immoral. If the spouses use one another for mere sexual pleasure, apart from love, faith, hope, apart from the primary goods of marital relations (found in the unitive, procreative, and marital meanings), then they sin seriously against God. And all unnatural sexual acts are intrinsically evil and always gravely immoral, even within marriage.
But lesser sins are also possible concerning sexuality within marriage. Even for a husband and wife, it is a sin to speak or act in a licentious manner, to speak or act as if marital relations were base or were merely for pleasure, to speak or act with immodesty and impurity. Certainly, modesty depends in part on intention and circumstances. Modest clothing in public differs from modest clothing before one’s spouse at home. Modesty for a husband and wife differs from modesty for a man and woman who are dating but unmarried. Yet even spouses must have respect for the dignity of the body and of sexuality, and a holy fear of God, in order to avoid various misuses of the body and of sexuality.
A just war does not justify all acts of violence within that war. And a holy marriage does not justify all sexual acts within that marriage. The eternal moral law prohibits intrinsically evil and gravely immoral sexual acts, as well as acts that are not intrinsically evil, but are sinful due to intention or circumstances. So the thoughts, words, and deeds of immodesty are not justified by marriage.

Parents Should Never Mistreat Their Children As It Is An Affront to God's Will
Harming and mistreating children would cause them to be lead astray from the path.
Provoking children can lead to anger and resentment over their own parents and project it towards all authority.
– Ephesians 6:4
Guiding children in their upbringing to instill values and wisdom so they may live on to adhere God's will.
– Proverbs 22:6
Lack of discipline in your children is lack of love.
– Proverbs 13:24

"But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."– Matthew 18:6
Provoking children can lead to anger and resentment over their own parents and project it towards all authority.
"And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."

ON THIS DAY
Two year ago today, a desperate mother, choose for the abortion of her child. We prayed much in this Community. On this sad anniversary, please pray for her and all those who were and are involved in this crime.
🆘 Let us pray for the end of abortion! 🆘
Heavenly Father, we grieve for the innocent victims of a worldwide disregard for human life – over a million are aborted every month. We pray for change in countries around the world where there are high abortion rates. Amen.

Take my selfishness, impatience, and irritability and turn them into kindness, long-suffering, and the willingness to bear all things. Take my old emotional habits, mindsets, automatic reactions, rude assumptions, and self-protective stance, and make me patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. I am not able to rise above who I am at this moment. Only You can transform me." - The Power of a Praying Wife•

A SERVANT OF WOUNDED WOMEN
Venerable Adele Bonolis
---
Today is the death anniversary of Ven. Adele Bonolis. She was an Italian layperson. She became a teacher of Religion in high school. She had special attention to women victims of prostitution and women wounded by life who are discarded and isolated. Her ministry also extended to other categories of women "at risk“ like former prisoners and mentally ill women. She continued her ministry even if she had intestinal tumor.

I think a rediscovery of the value of mothering, the needs of young children, and a growing concern about the negative impact 9-5, M-F daycare is partially behind this.
