I’ve watched and written plenty on João Pedro over the years.

Summary thoughts:
🟢 Class player. Technical, creative, smart with ball, strong finisher. Can not only drop deep to link up, is positionally flexible. Goals + assists joint package.
🟢 Strong, tenacious, good shithousery to him. Leadership (captained Watford at times). Type that seems to rise to occasions.
🟡 More 9.5 than true 9. Often plays with a more classic 9. He likes to roam and find pockets.
🟡 Has had lots of small recurring injuries.

Some will point out many of his goals are PKs. The fact he is often NOT deployed at 9 is the main reason, less shots per game when not playing as 9 as you’d expect. His G to xG ratio is fine.

- Originally a DM at youth level, but a Flu coach told him he'd be good upfront at 16. Scored 15 goals (!) his first 3 games.
- Arriving at Watford physicality and speed of play biggest differences. Ball runs faster in cold weather.
- All he'd do is practice then hit the gym. After lock down he was stronger and suddenly 'the game got easier'.
- Takes big dig at Nigel Pearson (Watford manager his first season). Lied to repeatedly saying he'd play him and then wouldn't. Only made 3 PL appearances that yr.
- Had option to go out loan when Watford was relegated but wanted to play in Championship to prove himself in England and prepare for PL.
- Friends with Muniz (Fulham striker), who came through at Flamengo while he was at Fluminense. He scored 36 goals at youth level and Muniz scored 32 the same year.
